meet our team

At Do Good Events, we’re not only event planners with a passion for social causes — we’re advocates and activists who excel at creating unforgettable experiences. Like you, we’re deeply committed to building a healthy, just, and equitable society, and we bring that dedication to every event we produce.

Our team is made up of experts with diverse backgrounds in nonprofit work, event production, and community engagement. We understand the unique challenges nonprofits face, and we pride ourselves on using our skills to amplify the incredible work you do.

Kate Taffel

CEO

Kate was raised in Sonoma County, spent a few years living abroad, and then returned to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2003.

  • A creative spirit from the start, she began her journey as a dancer (and yes, she still busts out some moves at weddings) before studying cinematography at university and eventually finding her true passion as an event producer.

Kate's career kicked off in 2000 as a front desk agent in the hotel industry, where she learned that no two days — and no two guests — are ever the same. In 2005, she moved into a catering management role at a luxury hotel, working with clients ranging from brides to nonprofit directors.

After several years as an in-house events director for a political lobbying group and time spent in the tech world, Kate realized that the nonprofit sector was where her heart — and her creativity — truly belonged. For her, event planning isn’t just about logistics; it’s about creating spaces where people connect, collaborate, and make a difference.

When Kate isn’t crafting unforgettable events, you’ll find her on her yoga mat, spending time with friends and family, or wandering through the beautiful Bay Area nature (occasionally getting lost, but enjoying every moment).

Marika Holmgren

Founder (retired)

When Marika was a little girl, she planned tea parties in her room, for which she would handwrite invitations that she slipped under her parents’ and brother’s doors.

  • She required RSVPs for these events. At the same time, she was highly motivated by social change, and as a teenager, built a shanty in her high school courtyard with two schoolmates to protest Apartheid. Imagine her delight when she found a way to combine two passions: saving the world and planning exceptional parties! When she’s not producing events, she can be found hurtling down a hill — purposefully — on her mountain bike, trying desperately — though not always successfully — to stay out of the ER. Marika also works on chemical policy reform. Because chemicals suck and are bad for all of us. Her dog, Jake, oversees most of her work and is very pleased that DOG is in the name of our company.

Chantal Fato (Anderson)

Operations Manager

Chantal joined Do Good Events in 2018, passionate about making a difference in the world.

  • She started performing Ballet at age 3 and spent over 20 years in the Performing Arts. In addition to being on stage, she wanted to experience everything backstage - directing, costume design, choreography, lighting & sound direction - fascinated with the production aspects of putting on a show. Chantal spent 10 years in Hospitality, organizing up to 100 exhibitors at a time and coordinating sales events, weddings, fundraisers, and international C-Level attendee conferences. Over the years, she volunteered for non-profits and helped produce successful fundraising galas. With Do Good Events, Chantal has found an opportunity to work with an amazing group of passionate individuals and contribute to organizations making a difference in the world.
